That sounds like a way of circumventing laws against age discrimination by creating a new criteria. Asking about energy isn't asking about age, but if it seemed like that was the point, then sure, that was the point. If asked that, I suppose all you can do is say yes, I've got energy, I'm a runner, and so on. I don't know what you could do beyond that, short of offering to wrestle someone.
It's a crap shoot! Be your best advocate. Work well with others. Or..in sales your results are easily measured. I have dragged in multiple awards and computer standings. Consistency with superior results says volumes.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to make sure a potential employee has what it takes to be successful in a given role. I say this as a 49 year old who's on the job hunt, who is as motivated as ever to knock it out of the park in my next role.
I’m 53 and all of my interviews have been awesome. I’m in final rounds with some. I don’t put any years on my resume and I do look younger, but I’ve always been complimented on my energy and persona. I’ve been told that so many times someone’s personality can’t come through a zoom meeting, but mine did and that it was intoxicating. I know good and well that I’m interviewing against younger people, but you are who and what you are inside. I have always projected much younger than I really am because my heart is young. Most of my success in life has been through relationship building which I do quite easily. I’m genuine and it comes across all the time. I’m really gonna hate leaving Oak Street Health, but my position across the country was eliminated and nothing else seems to fit my skill set.
