Anyone from EYP…I’m applying to “Strategy & Transactions Working Capital Consultant/Senior”. I have the experience, six sigma, PMP etc stated in the description. How can I proactively position myself to earn the interview? I’m afraid I might get auto rejected because I have way more than 2 years experience, but I know industry experience is weighted different. Appreciate any help, insight, or anyone willing to chat. I mean you gotta learn to talk the talk. Blunt criticism of a former employer never goes over well in interviews. Instead say something like “overscheduling meetings, in my opinion, led to a less fluid, less collaborative environment. I think we would have gotten to better ideas and work faster had the culture been a little more oriented towards real-time collaboration and problem solving.” Something like that. It doesn’t have to be corporate-y, but it does have to be constructive and diplomatic.
Rule of thumb: keep anything considered to be a negative thought out of the conversation. Keep it all positive.
Interviews are feeling like dating nowadays, specifically that we over analyze everything someone said in the hopes that they like us. And vice versa, as a hiring manager, we don't want to make a mistake so we always read too much into each word said.
Never be honest in an interview. Ever. Boundary what you know they’ll want to hear.
It’s just about reading the room. Speaking poorly about a former experience in any way, even lightheartedly, is unacceptable. You can just say my prior role was great for that moment in time, I wouldn’t change things about it, im just ready for something else. This seems like a great opportunity to bring my skills together and grow…whatever. It’s not a therapy session so curated honesty at best. The point is to secure the role.
