Have a couple of lateral offers I’m weighing - all else being equal would you go with Kearney or LEK

Kearney is the clear winner between these two, barring any practice-specific nuance

And apply in parallel to AlixPartners and/or Alvarez and Marsal for a bigger upgrade

like

Got an offer from Alix but see these two as better options

LEK is a sweat shop.

A&M and Alix have better potential pay then Kearney if you do well and have seen more growth recently, but a lot of it is debt fueled growth and they’re a different model - much more dog eat dog, top heavy (no true pyramid), and higher variable comp is more at risk.

1) Avoid LEK
2) Pick Kearney if you want a “classical” full stack mgmt consulting experience and culture
3) if you like the model / culture / aggression of Alix, go for it, lots of great people there

Run awayyyy haha.

Cdds get old real fast and you’ll get paid less

This is a practice dependent question. Pharma and healthcare groups do different work than the rest of the firm which is focused on CDD/VDD. Same with the Organization & Performance practice. Most of the negative reputation comes from the DD heavy LEK practices (Consumer, TMT, Industrials) although this is mostly from the DD workload and not the personalities and culture. That being said if you were specifically choosing between DDs at Kearney and DDs at LEK I would go LEK because there's a lot more institutionalized know how built up there.

like

Answer is always “not LEK”

funnylike

Culture is toxic tho

I’m at LEK and I’ve had good experience here. I’ve also moved from another consulting firm and can compare to my previous experience.

A lot also depends the level you move in and the practice area (not all practices are equally weighted on DDs). Very happy to connect or chat if helpful.

Literally do one search for LEK posts on this app. It's not a meme. You're already at a t2 you don't have to slum it in the sweatshop.

No love for OW?

Recent exp hire in consulting and would love some input. Pre hire was promised by leadership that the firm was doing lots of interesting strategy work in a niche, cutting edge but rapidly growing field. However, after a bunch of internal networking this does not appear to be the case and I'm getting creeping doubts about whether anyone here even understands the space.
Am I being paranoid? Is this common?

Told a friend of mine in tech I was considering moving to BCG. He asked me if I would have to move to Boston.

I followed up by asking what he thought the top consulting firms were. "I'd guess PwC and then McKinsey are the best. I've also heard of KPMG, Deloitte, and Bain, but I don't know much about them."

Just a reminder that outside our bubble no-one really cares about firm prestige etc.
