Do brokers like Lockton and Marsh only hire established producers or are they open to newer producers?

Open to newer and experienced but need to really sell yourself. It’ll be extremely difficult for someone if they are new to the area and don’t really know many people.

In my experience, brokers are reluctant to hire without prior brokerage/consultant experience. Of course if you interview well and have a wealth of experience from the carrier side, then you have a much better chance. But you'll generally lose out to a candidate with any degree of brokerage experience, sadly.

I think it depends on your background. Do you have any sales experience? Some backgrounds have an easier transition to sales.

If you have a sales mindset and a network to build on its worth a shot. I know Gallagher will hire from outside of production if the candidate is driven and willing to network.

I have production experience with McGriff/Truist, but only a few years and no college degree.

Industry vets - in your experience how recession proof is insurance? I was not yet in the job market last recession but I watched my mom get laid off and struggle to find employment during that time for the next 1.5 years. Is it better to stay put?

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most, how pissed would you be if you were a supervisor and you had a new direct report on your team with a higher salary than you? The years of experience are the same, but you have 3 designations (they have 0), you have 3 licenses (they have just 2), they have little to no experience with technical complex claims (you have hundreds), and you have 3 years in management (they have 0).

I have family members who are inside claims reps for a large company. The company sends out emails 4 times/day showing who is currently not available for calls. To everyone working in claims in the entire country! It’s been a minute since I worked in claims. And never for this particular company. But is this shaming the new way to manage WFH.? Sounds at least toxic.

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. This job will be based out of San Francisco. I currently make $30/hour for the same role in Chicago, after OT it’s about $60,000. Do you think it would be wise to accept the offer? Thoughts in general?

I feel like every company lies about “working your way up.” You’re never allowed to blatantly say that you don’t like your position and you’d like to transition to HR or Finance. It’s almost as if once you get in claims, you’re stuck.

If you’re a manager and you see an employee that wants to branch out into a different department, why would you keep them boxed in for 2+ years?

Are there some background mechanics that I’m missing?
