Have any of you been successful in trying to keep the company laptop or any technology provided to you? The petty side of me wants to just hold on to my work laptop because it's the least I can do for myself to help this situation of suddenly being jobless, better. I like these ideas from this TikTok, where she says you can position it as needing the laptop for job searches, etc. Do you think that'll do? What other ideas do we have?

I've never even thought to do this. And no, I don't think that will do. If the company actually cared about your personal struggles, they wouldn't lay you off in the first place. Saying you need company property for your job search is guaranteed to land on deaf ears.

I don’t have any experience with asking, always have had my personal computer at home, but understand it would be a huge issue without. I guess it can be worth an ask if you phrase it a certain way. I would be cautious about just keeping it, might end up with a bill or withheld last pay, or something.

I had a friend who was laid off and she was trying to return a laptop and had a lot of problems getting a straight answer about the procedure. They were supposed to send a prepaid shipping box or something but never did. So she kept the laptop but didn't want to use it, she seemed to believe it was packed with spyware.

Hi
Applied for a position in Johnson and Johnson Canada. Reached the final round 3 weeks back. After not getting any updates I emailed the HR a couple of weeks back. They responded back telling me that they’ll have an update for me the next week. Again I emailed them on Thursday asking if they have anything for me before the long weekend ( Good Friday & Easter). No response whatsoever. Will emailing them again be inappropriate? I desperately need this job
