Did someone get called Canadian from a MAGA supporter
If you are more junior, report it up the chain at your company; if you're more senior, I would ideally try to get that person pulled from the project so my team doesn't have to interact with them, but if that's not possible, I would tell them it's unacceptable - if they do it again, I will terminate the contract. Money isn't worth subjecting myself or my team to that.
Thanks, SC1 - when I was more junior, I wished I had someone like me in leadership too. As you grow in your career, emulate the good things leaders did for you and intentionally don't do the things you wished people didn't do.
Are you gen z
Was it used in a way that was attacking a specific person on the engagement? If so, I would escalate to the engagement manager on your team. If it was just some old boomer making an insensitive joke, I would just ignore it.
Unfortunately I’ve been around long enough to see what happens when you bring these things up. Unless a team member is being attacked, all that bringing this up will do is get you labeled as a “problem person”.
I have. I had them create a campaign on GiveSendGo and they raised over $600,000 for using slurs. Got my firm their 20% so everyone was happy
What group was the slur directed against? Was it said in jest, out of anger, or what? Just curious.
I never said otherwise, but the curiosity remains.
Storytime OP. Spill the tea.
I personally haven't heard it from a client , but im pretty sure I have heard an Accenture person say a gay slur at a bar... Where an Accenture event was being held... At a table with I think another Accenture person.
I don't work with the person and was only walking by, so didn't do anything about it. Also wasn't 100% certain (it was a bit loud), so maybe I misheard? At the time I didn't think I misheard, but I hope I did and we're better than that
I’d bring it up with engagement leadership (assuming you are junior). They can determine whether it should be addressed or is the type of micro aggression that is more difficult to.
What types of slurs are we talking about? If engagement leadership doesn’t do anything, you might need to escalate further but that would depend on the details…
I brought it to leadership. It allowed them to pay more attention, and they did raise it with the client. It also allowed our team to allow the young lady he had directed it at to decide if she’d prefer to stay or roll off. We were then also cautious about who took individual meetings with this person.
Just ignore it if the slurs are not directed at you or other specific people. Some clients have a higher tolerance to profanities and cussing as long as they don’t become directed to specific individuals.
Sorry M1, you’re completely wrong. OP is absolutely not trying to fix “everything that is wrong in the world” but rather ensure that their colleagues are treated fairly and with respect. With all due, this attitude is outdated a d quite frankly disgusting.

Sounds like a candidate for senior partner

Was it a slur in all contexts? Like, could they just be older or you have an interpretation that is different?
For example, in the UK calling the French ‘frogs’ is more seen as inter-regional joshing rather than a slur.

There is such a thing as being over sensitive though, right?
Like I might say that you calling them ‘older people’ is ageist and you should call them ‘experienced citizens’ otherwise you are advocated murder of the elderly.
But that would be silly. Just like some accusations of microaggressions are silly. There is no objective measure of what is and is not bad speech and we should not be naive to the benefits that can be derived by using false accusations to manipulate and control the speech of others.
Where we think bad speech (slur, microaggression) has occurred we should find a way to express our discomfort but be open to a discussion rather than acting like judge, jury, and executioner in the court of public opinion.
