Have you worked with or know of anyone that got disbarred? Or at least suspended? What happened?

First party property plaintiff's firm was committing numerous ethical and legal violations. Fraudulently claiming to represent homeowners thru an assignment of benefits (illegal in my state); filed thousands of form petitions without verifying information, leading to incorrect insurance companies being sued, homeowners with no insurance suing, and homeowners with settled claims filing suit. Now, managing partner of our local office is on interim suspension, 3/5 former attorneys are suspended for 6-9 months, local office closed, and all attorneys at home office have left save for the sole founding partner, who is currently under federal investigation, along with former MP. All (founding and managing partner, and firm) were also assessed $500k fines by the state Dept. of Insurance

I worked with an attorney years ago who was disbarred for soliciting sex from clients in exchange for representation or money. He didn’t receive any complaints from any of the clients at the firm I work at, but was let go from the firm due to sexual comments made to myself and other support staff. Complaints were filed with the ARDC by multiple clients of the 3 firms he worked at after being let go from our office and he was initially suspended prior to being disbarred in 2011.

Let's just say a former colleague is now on the "extremely naughty" registry

Hi Everyone,

I am currently working at Meta as a Recruiting Coordinator under contract. That contract will soon come to term in July. There hasn’t been any talks about extending my contract, so I am getting very nervous about potentially being out of work in July. I am a first gen corporate worker, and I have about 5 years of experience in recruitment. I have also recently finished my Masters in HR Management, so I wanted to jump on here and see if anyone has any tips for landing a new role?

How many married professionals with young families are just sticking it out “for the kids”? Marriage is very dead and has been for a while. Young kids 4 and 1. My wife and I don’t fight, but share 0 interests outside of the kids and can’t stand to be around each other. I’m so ready to leave… I just can’t bear the thought of doing it to my children even though another part of me feels like wife and I would both be better parents if our lives were separate. Anyone else done a similar analysis?

Hi,
Need some advice. My pet had been eating his kebble food on a consistent basis. Then I introduced a bit of raw chicken into his kebble and loved having it even more. But now I'm realizing that if I don't add chicken, he just doesn't eat his regular kebble food. What should I do? (Don't want to feed chicken every day)

Any plaintiff’s attorneys on here from St. Louis? I might make the switch over from defense. Curious how much you all are making per year if you’re comfortable sharing. I’m trying to get an idea whether leaving the billable model and stress behind is worth the lower annual salary. Thanks!

I work for a small firm (about 20 attorneys) and make 90k. I’m coming up for a raise discussion in a couple of months but don’t know how to go about it/what is reasonable to ask for. I bill about 35 hrs/week at 400/hr, so I think I deserve a bump, especially considering the posture of the market. Any advice/feedback from similarly situated associates or partners at similarly sized firms?

There’s been some turnover over the last six months at my firm, and I have taken over more files. However, I feel guilty that this is still happening. Any tips for getting over this?

I am an associate at an AM200 firm and was (IMO) very clear prior to accepting this role that I value work-life balance and wanted to try to keep work at night on the weekends to a minimal, but since February, it seems like it’s always something that requires my time as needed disregarding “business hours” or my personal schedule. Thoughts on whether to bring this up or continue to be a team player until I burn out and pay off my student loans?

When drafting a brief or other submissions for court or arbitration, do you use words such as clearly, erroneously, etc. to emphasize certain points? Our managing partner says that we should, but all of the writing guides for litigators that I've read repeats the mantra "show, don't tell" and explain that most judges dread such words.

I know that the politically correct thing to do here is to do whatever the managing partner wants me to do, but I just wanted to ask for other ppl's opinion.
