Having gone to both ASWs, I’m fully convinced HBS is the better program. I fully understand why people choose GSB and think there are great reasons to do so, but cannot wrap my head around the common thinking that GSB >>> HBS. At a minimum, they are on par.

I feel the same way. HBS literally invented the MBA and has been the gold standard for business education for the past 100+ years.

like

That doesn’t mean much now, other than legacy brand. This is the exact type of thinking that’s made the HBS program stagnant compared to a program like GSB.

like

GSB everyday
HBS is an old school program, GSB is a forward looking one.
Also GSB is more prestigious nowadays amongst everyone who is familiar with MBAs.
HBS is just full of McKinsey and Goldman Sachs. Is a great program but living off of its legacy prestigue
My opinion ofc, I know you will disagree so no need to argue lol

like

Agree HBS has way too many consultants. No innovator wants to be around that many people who just talk versus are doers

like

I am baffled by the amount of ppl going for GSB after the HBS ASW

like

Id choose GSB everyday

Can you elaborate?

I felt HBS was more organized, the class was more diverse (in terms of work experience and aspirations) /international, the brand amongst business people and internationally (not tech) was stronger, the network was much wider/more diverse.

The clear advantage for GSB is being plugged into the Silicon Valley ecosystem, where much of the value creation in the country/world is happening. It is also a more unstructured program which can be a good thing if you know how to use your time well.

But outside of that, HBS seemed better in most other respects

like

I think the "common thinking" is GSB=HBS... if you like tech or want to be on the west coast, GSB. I know many people who don't apply to GSB (myself included) because they want to stay on the east coast

I agree with this, but you’d be surprised how many people (cross admits) think that GSB is more “elite” and “prestigious”

Check Harvard MBA unemployment figures. I think Stanford MBAs gave easier time finding employment.

Did you pick hbs then? If so let’s connect

Which school did you pick?

Me too! Would love to connect

Genuinely curious question: why do so many international students want to get MBAs in the US... it’s hard for them to get work here, with Trump it’s hard to even get and stay here, so what’s the appeal? There are plenty of other good universities internationally so why the expensive ones in the US?
