Heading into my last 2 weeks of work before maternity leave. For those who’ve gone on maternity leave, how many hours did you bill in the last few weeks and what was expected? I’m getting mixed messages at my firm of what’s expected/reasonable.

My firm has a ramp down period where our billing expectations are halved for four weeks before leave.

Love this

I’m due 10/8 and am currently averaging like 4.5 hours a day for work, but was above average billing until meeting a big deadline on 9/22. My September billables were just over 200…

Darling mama, do what feels right to you. I’m confident you have worked your tail off, given it your all, done your best to prepare everything and everyone. Now it’s time to draw the line and carve out a little space to breathe. You are about to enter a new phase of life that is at once thrilling and joyous and pretty darn tiring. Rest now, while you cam sleep and veg out and read a book or whatever brings you joy. Don’t push yourself to the point where you’ve “left everything on the field” when you go out on leave, save some for you and the first few weeks of motherhood. I wish I learned earlier in my mothering/working life that NO ONE but you will protect you, will ensure you are sufficiently rested to put one foot in front of the other, that you haven’t worked and parented, etc so much that you have nothing left, the well has run dry. While they don’t mean to, others will let you give until you can’t give anymore. So take this moment to step into the next phase with wisdom I didn’t have, do your best to draw the line, carve out whatever you can now and hold them for you. You have more than earned it.

With much love and support,
A fellow mama

It does not matter. Focus on your family and just comport yourself like a reasonable professional at work. No reasonable employer is judging anything about the 4ish weeks before you give birth.

My firm has a ramp down period but I definitely billed normal hours up until the end of the month because I was doing deal work and had some closings that needed wrapping up. I was due beginning of the following month. However, every deal I was staffed in had another associate or partner who I had briefed on the open items, etc. In case baby came earlier.
