Hello, I have been in a suffocating position for 3 years now.

I never wanted to do graphic design at all, I only studied it to buy time to be an artist. COVID hit and shot that dream down temporarily, so I finished college and struggled for 2 years to get a “normal” job like a “normal” person.

Now I’m stuck in a 9-5 and with the state of my home life I have no time to do anything period.

I need to find out how to get part time work and still make a living.

I value time far over money.

It’s worth noting that the pay is unliveable even living with my parents and that I have to give a 4 weeks notice by contract if by some miracle I can find an optimal job.

I'm not sure what you're asking.

If you're struggling financially while working a full time job I'm not sure that you're going to be able to support yourself while working part time. Most part time jobs pay even less than a full time job would.

If you're trying to get advice as to how to handle finding yourself when you're in a career that you hate, the answer is more complicated. My advice: try to find the motivation to pursue something creative in your free time in the evenings and on the weekends. It may give you an outlet to help you deal with the negative feelings you have towards your day job.

Unfortunately, no job is perfect. We just have to find a way to do the best that we can with whatever we've got.

There are parallels between design and art but not many other careers. So the part time gig, wherever it may be, may be even more suffocating.

What makes your current job suffocating? Perhaps it’s the company you work at. Or the people you work with. Or even what kind of projects you work on.

If you feel like a “normal” person there, I guarantee you you’re with the wrong tribe. I know the craziest artists that are full time designers and art directors and they’re living a very fulfilling life.

This question is quite broad and subjective but would love to hear some thoughts. For a couple with family income of about 60 LPA in India, is it wise to move to Canada/UK via the PR route? I have seen no matter how much experience you have, it's usually about building up from scratch.

Any resume writer referrals? I’m trying to make the jump into project management. I have 13YOE managing cross-departmental projects and people, and I’d like to shed the general EA work of calendars/travel/expenses. But recruiters just see my most recent role is EA and that’s all they want to talk to me about. I’m hoping a better written resume will help target algorithms to get my resume viewed for other roles.

I'm trying to figure out how to pivot out of my current job. My department is in utter chaos, which has just become completely unmanageable. I'm looking for front-end web design work, and work from home. I am a strong designer and basically set up landing pages for large companies on a proprietary CMS in our company. If anyone knows of places I could apply? I'm not trying to reinvent myself as I do artwork on the side and would rather grow that business and get out of the chaos of fortune 500.

Why is education deemed more valuable on a pay scale than experience? Employers will pay someone with a degree and no experience a greater salary, than someone who has exhibited the experience. Understanding that the degreed person committed to school and finished, yet that doesn't diminish what the not degreed has committed to and accomplished in their careers. This has to stop!

Hello all, I am a production manager for a sign design and manufacturing company. I have been with the company for six years now starting as lead graphic designer working my way to the production manager. since becoming the production manager two years ago I am responsible for 4 large format printers and 1 vinyl plotter. I’m wearing too many hats but I love what I do. I would love to be a remote graphic designer but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?

Am I crazy? Currently interviewing at LEK, Oliver Wyman, and Deloitte strat for (essentially) entry level positions after working in biz dev at Microsoft for under a year. I’d basically be trading my WLB for away for the same salary I make here, but I feel like I’ll learn way more in consulting and be a more well rounded person. My friends say I’m crazy, need a reality check…

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

Not sure whether to be honest or not in this situation. I have decided that I want to leave my job and do a masters degree. I’m planning to leave my job at the end of June, should I warn my boss now so she can start hiring? I don’t want her to be blindsided by my decision and hiring is very slow at the moment. Plus if they hire someone I can train the transition will be easier? But I don’t want to shoot myself in the foot if they were thinking or giving me a pay rise or promoting me?
