What jobs are currently paying 85k?
I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

Quick route will be to interview with other companies and see what they offer you, and then check if your company will match. Longer route will be, demonstrating your ability to handle new responsibilities very well, and then asking for a raise based on your performance… if denied or not given good enough raise, then interviewing with other companies might be your only way.
I hate to even have to ask - but is there any age/gender/race difference? I do NOT like to go there first but if the answer is “no” then I would assume that the disparity was due to your starting pay vs their starting pay. Once there is a gap (like in a wide payband ) it is almost impossible to get the company to even it out. I too would suggest that
1. You should start looking outside for a new opportunity and make sure you know median pay for those roles
2. If you have a good relationship with anyone in your chain of command, let them know that you believe there is a large disparity in compensation and you are “thinking about you options elsewhere “
Lastly. Sometimes even leaving a company- on good terms- and going back later at a better negotiated rate is possible. However the job market SUCKS at the moment!!
