Hey all, im 32yp I've been in the financial services for 10 years now and have been a financial advisor for the last 6. Working with clients between $500k-$6m aum.

Long term career goals is to work with folks with more complex needs. In a family office style.

Personal situation is making me move to a remote location internationally for 4 years. Likely not going to find relevant work.

Im nervous about stepping away for 4 years. Is this career suicide? Will earning the CFA be good use of time?

It’s not career suicide, but definitely a set-back. Do you HAVE to, or you decided to?

Depends on how you look at it, I guess. Tl;DR my wife is taking a research role at a university in Norway. Its a huge step in her own career and want to support her.

I have to agree with Client Operations Associate 1. Get on upwork and start doing it now. That will be the best way for you to transition.

I am asked during this RE analyst interview to build a real estate model from scratch. My background is commercial banking and I am used to analyzing real estate deals from the lender side not the developer. The interviewer is generous I must say he’s giving me a few days to complete. However this model is for a ground up multifamily development. I have no prior experience building one. I can find models online but all very complexe to reproduce. How would you handle? Do you have model to share?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

Due to obvious conditions my comp for the calendar year (salary+bonus) is back to 2017 levels although my overall sales are more than double and 1/3 less total comp than last year. It seems like comp opportunity is always decreasing during good times (I get it) but when it comes to adjusting during bad times, nothing was done. Is this normal for industry sales?
