They start calling their grandparents pi paw and maw maw.
I should add that I don’t have any kids but if I did I would be scared of that.

Honestly, no fears. They go to a great public school and get their desi fix at a local mosque. Grandparents/cousins visit or FaceTime. Absolutely love the way they are learning to think critically and are growing into well-rounded humans

My husband grew up in States and I didn’t and I am honestly jealous of all the opportunities and experiences he had growing up. All I did was memorize shit in school that I never understood and forgot right after graduating
That they may not win the spelling bee or rejected by Stanford.
While my very original statement was a joke and more stereo typing, I would also challenge the notion of spelling bee is useless skill.
It’s the journey of developing that mental agility that counts. My current client (~ age 36) Desi and a partner at a leading PE fund credits his success to his spelling bee training. He did not win but was placed in Top 5. That dude will never forget any thing we show. Making solid $$$.
It is not an either / or between sports and spelling bee. It could be an ‘and’ .
My parents used to be terrified I would end up being a hippie feminist who drinks and does drugs, so I wasn’t allowed to date/go to parties/etc. Funny thing is that it just made do all that behind their backs.
Now that I’m in my 20s, and now that my parents have also grown up, we just laugh about all the restrictions they put on me. They’re actually a little happy that I didn’t listen to them and I had fun growing up.
Yeah, my parents came here in the 90s and I think they were just confused since obviously cause social media and internet weren’t a thing. But I think if they had a chance to have a do-over with what they know now, they would have been much more relaxed.

No fears. I remind them how lucky they are to be born here. 🙏
No fears, I am glad and lucky they will grow up here

Please don’t project your fears onto your kids! Let them grow without the desi-panna we grew up with. I find that kids here balance their desi identity/sensibilities well while being so open to everyone else. My conversations with my friends’ kids are on a much deeper level than I ever was at their age.

No fear and have chilled beer ....
Irrational fear of school mass shooting. This was actually my top reason to move out of US, but been using facts of numbers/probabilities to calm myself.
