It is becoming the norm for federal district judges to only hire clerks with 2-3+ years of experience.
My judge (federal district) only hires folks with experience.
My judge does. State appellate. I’ve also known an attorney to get a job as a federal appellate clerk after several years of practice.
Yes, it is actually pretty frequent these days to clerk after a few years of experience. Many judges prefer a few years experience too
