Just did this same thing last year- Volo (adults sports league/social group), meet up (app literally thousands of meet ups you can filter by topic), manifest the type of ppl you want to meet (eg bars, breweries, coffee shops, thrifters, etc). Use a commonality/compliment to strike a convo- many initial connections will fall through but don’t be discourage you have to keep putting yourself out there! You’ve got this
Hey, this is what helped me, but it may not work every time since you won’t always click w every person you meet: smile, make eye contact, be the first one to say hey. Ask follow up questions and you’ll discover whether or not you have common interests/vibe. If you do , then invite this person out somewhere.
This is going to sound weird, but I’m a natural introvert and what I did when I graduated was literally try to say something to everyone I encountered, whether it’s a compliment question or whatever I just started talking to people. I talked to my mail person, coffee shop person, homeless, whoever just to get me out of my shell and open me up as a social person. The easiest place to do this is at bars clubs gym non alc meetups etc…Also literally the first night I moved to charlotte, I drove to a popular young spot in town with clubs and stuff , got out of my car and was nervous as hell but said “hey I’m new here and I’m looking to meet new people” to the people walking past my car. 3 years later and one of the people I met that day texted me today to invite me to go to their beach house in Miami in a few weeks.
find others in your new community who enjoy your same hobbies. I enjoy cycling so i researched and joined a club that met weekly and did different routes throughout miami when i had to move there for work.
Check out Bumble BFF

I've been using the Meet Up app for local happy hours with other 20-somethings. Doesn't guarantee friendships but you can meet some ppl. Houston should definitely have some good ones
I’ll check out the app, thanks :)
I made my friends a year ago in this new city by going to this Fb group gathering for people that are finding friends in the area haha. And there's this one friend that I made through Hinge (surprised!!!) and she introduced me to her friends too, and we went to many dinners and parties.
In conclusion, I think the best way is to go out there and you will meet cool people that think you're cool too and then there you have it, a friendship :)
I'm introverted too but I can talk to people that I don't know, it just takes me a lot of time alone to recover but at the end, it all worths it.
appreciate the response!
Went through the same thing when I moved from the California Bay Area to Atlanta. See if there are any coworkers in your city. Happy hours can be a great time to meet your coworkers and make potential friends. Try local things like bars(if that’s your thing). For instance, im into cars, so meets have been a cool Place to meet people. Conventions and concerts have been great also
Try a local church! Always a great way to plug in, meet great people and build a community.
Do you have anyone you went to high school or college with that you would want to hang out with? Any friends of friends that live there?
I dont :(
I'd give +1 for a church. Even if you are not a Christian, they'll have events outside the church for young adults. Go join that. People are generally welcoming and friendly.
If I was you, would move to sf or austin
Why
Toastmasters, you'll meet new people and get an opportunity to improve your public speaking.
What city?
