To initiate a productive discussion with your boss, I propose highlighting a significant achievement that aligns with the Director/Senior Manager level responsibilities. Alternatively, I would inquire about opportunities to contribute to a high-visibility project commensurate with this level of experience. This approach will certainly begin the conversation toward your advancement.

What I would do is:
firstly, I would schedule a catch up meeting with them so that I have their full attention and time.
Then, depending on my relationship with them and potentially after some small talk, I would open the conversation with saying something along the lines of: it´s been 3 years I´ve successfully been in my role. Im now excited to take the next step towards director/sr. manager role. I wanted to catch up with you today to hear your thoughts on me moving to the next role? How do you see it?
The goal of that initial chat would be to understand their thoughts so that you can be more strategic about what needs to be done next.
