I found out that I can make more money starting, buying and running businesses than I can in law. Plus I'm home at 6pm every night. Did anyone find that out?

Work in law to get starting capital and exit for entrepreneurship is the ideal move

I think you're making it out to be much easier, certain and profitable to start a new business than it really is.

I’ve know it for a while. I’m just trying to figure out what business and how to raise the capital?

It might be a a me thing but I started my first business at 16 and bought my first business at 24. I start with low costs and don't invest a ton into them before they show promise. I now buy small business I think I can do better on.

How did you get into this? What made you decide to start and/or buy your first business?

Have to say, it feels like you’re going to ask for our credit card information and social security number next.

Hahaha no, nor am I asking for help. My businesses are passive and I don't need to hire people.

What type of businesses are you buying and selling/running?

Everyone has a different perspective on this but would love to hear yours. Someone has debt ranging say 4-5% interest rates. Do you attack debt more then investing to move towards a debt free life or do you go after investments since they return historically above that then paying down closer towards retirement. I know the latter looks better on paper but what about the psychological factors of being debt free and the guaranteed return on interest savings.

How do you handle personal investments when married? For example, say you wanted to invest in riskier areas like Bitcoin, Ethereum, defi tokens, etc. Would you talk to your wife before every investment even if it’s time sensitive? Or do you have joint investment buckets where you decide together and then personal investment buckets where you invest on your own? Not married so not sure how this typically works

Former client( filed a bar grievance that was dismissed, sent me a demand letter that an attorney responded to on my behalf, and filed a BBB complaint against my non-BBB law firm) has now pro se filed a lawsuit against me in small claims court. Alleging misrepresentation, failure to file a lawsuit, and failure to advise during the process. I have phone logs, emails, and billing notes (all of which she has) that show she’s lying. Should I notify my malpractice carrier? All advice appreciated!

I have a governmental entity client in Texas that wants to offer 6 weeks of paid parental leave for all employees, even those who aren’t eligible for FMLA. After the paid 6 weeks, the employee can choose to continue paid leave using any accrued personal leave.

Texas does not have a paid parental leave statute.

If paid leave above what is required is offered for parents, do we also have to provide the same benefit to other employees that are eligible for unpaid leave?

I have been a practicing (patent prosecution) lawyer in different firms for about 20 years. I would love to do something more creative but still techie (computers, telecom, apps, etc.). I've always been interested in improving the software that practicing lawyers use (whether patent-specific or not). I am also kind of an academic at heart, but I live in a locale where professorial jobs are pretty limited and we're rooted here now. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have been overworked and overwhelmed at my current job for quite a while. This is my first position out of law school, small firm with large caseload, and in my second year of practice. I often think I should look for another opportunity elsewhere but I don't know that any other firms would give me the potential for growth and experience that I am getting here. What are other 2nd year associates doing at other firms? Trying to gauge if I really am getting more opportunities here
