Hi ladies, I’m planning to have a baby (trying for months now), and have also come to a realization last few months that I really don’t want to be in my current firm/job anymore. How do I navigate job search while trying? I’ve been thinking of pausing 1-2 months, but I do have some reproductive issues, so it’s really not highly advised for me to be doing a long pause. Please help with any advice/ experience.

Career and family planning is a lot to juggle! I’d recommend focusing on companies that really prioritize family support. Work-life balance, parental leave, etc. Maybe look into remote or hybrid options?

I hear you. Timing around big life changes never feels perfect. I wouldn’t pause if your current job is draining you. I’ve seen people find healthier roles and still prioritize family plans. What matters most is how you feel each day—are you supported, valued, and well enough to keep going? Would part-time or temp roles ease the pressure as you transition?

If a long pause isn’t ideal, consider easing into your job search by focusing on roles and companies known for supporting parents. You don’t need to have everything figured out, small steps can build meaningful momentum. Also, if your current company offers unpaid leave, that might give you a bit of extra time and flexibility.

Thanks! No unpaid leave policy unfortunately and my current boss/ department lead is very unfriendly towards family leave and anyone with kids…so I need to consider my options.

Was also in a company that I just really did not want to stay at period let alone when we made the decision to start trying to have a baby. Also faced some struggles during trying to get pregnant, didn’t take the pause but it was something we considered. Took me a while to find a company that was supportive and couldn’t be happier with everything now.

Such a tough choice to make. I don’t have much advice other than, you are not legally obligated to disclose your pregnancy status or intentions to conceive when interviewing for jobs (at least if you’re in the US)
