Do most big law firms in Canada have mat leave top ups?

So I am a PI staff 2 in the west coast. Already in the PIP due to poor utilization last year. Trying everything I can to get staffed this time round but only 50% utilization up until now. (CTD)

Everyone seems to be worried about a recession, but most attorneys I speak with are actually busy. Anyone seeing otherwise?

I get there are stealth layoffs happening, but those are at the small minority of firms that were actually able to hire the last 2 years.

Earlier I posted an opinion about a non-advertising related subject and somebody talked down to me because I'm a junior copywriter. Just want to reiterate, the subject had nothing to do with advertising and the person used my advertising job title to talk down to me. This bowl can be kind of insufferable sometimes.

Corporate at a large Bay Street firm and it’s slower than its ever been right now... anyone else?

I’m a junior litigation lawyer based in Windsor looking to lateral to corporate big law. I have been doing commercial litigation, tax litigation, and tax planning. I’ve done corporate reorganization, corporate structuring, rollovers so corporate would not be completely new to me. I did a solicitor rotation during articling and was involved with several m&a deals. Has anyone managed to make the jump from litigation in Windsor to Toronto big law corporate? Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Trying to rid myself of ID work and get into commercial lit at big shop. I’m just about a year in, and so I was wondering if it makes sense to go to a smaller/midsized shop first then see where I’m at in 3-5 years if big law is still a goal.

I really wish the big law firms in Canada were as transparent about their pay and bonus scales as what we are seeing in the US. Does any Canadian firm share bonus scales??

2018 call at a large Bay St. firm, in corporate. I want to work in a business role and have offer for legal counsel role for large entertainment company. What kind of salary/benefits are good offer?

How is your firm’s bonus policy structured? Set amounts based on year of call and hours? Discretionary? Who the hell knows? What bonus?

Do Canadian firms have any interest in hiring American JDs given the market and that Canadian associates are moving to the US?
