I am moving to Austin from the Midwest and we currently have a pool but we can only keep it open a few months out of the year. So, I was wondering how different it would be to have pool in texas.

You don't close pools here like you do in northern climates. If you have a spa that will get used all year. How many months depends on what temp you are willing to swim. And if your pool gets afternoon shade. Most swim teams start beginning of May but that will be low 80s. Avg use is probably 5 months without using a heater. Access to a neighborhood pool is easier if you aren't an avid swimmer or have heavy kid use and want to be the magnet house.
Very expensive to build as it mostly rock out here. On average new pools are about $150,000 plus. Can use it 6-7 months at least as unheated.
I just built a pool at my house…used a small company. It took longer but I am only in it for $60k instead of $100k+ from the big names for the same pool. Things like a hot spa or over the top water features will cost you a lot more. I’m also a realtor - let me know if you have any questions.
I bought a house with a pool--we love it and use it all the time. We pay a handyman to come every other week in the summer & maybe twice in the winter to manage the chemicals/maintenance - about $100 a visit. Never closed it in the winter and it's been fine (but we're saving up for a heater)
I have a 28x12 fiberglass pool with heater/cooler and keep it open all year round. Maintenance weekly thru Patriot Pool costs about $375-$400 per month.
