What jobs are currently paying 85k?
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

I’ve found it helpful to frame the convo around impact, what I’ve achieved and how it aligns with team goals. I always make it a priority to check in quarterly not just during reviews so it’s ongoing conversation, not a surprise. It's always hard to show that kind of initiative, but when it's done right (with hard numbers, specific goals, and a humble but eager attitude) I think you earn a lot of respect

These are good points. Especially- giving the perspective of earning respect through being thorough. Thanks.
It's a good idea to talk to one's boss about career growth, but it has to be done in a strategic and tactful way. If you're just talking about your own advancement you may do yourself a disservice. But if you frame the discussion around how you want to step up and do more and grow in your job, that's a better approach. And, of course, if you back that with action and actually start stepping up and taking the initiative, you'll go into those discussions with credibility.

I’ll try to frame it differently. Thanks
I find it helpful to have quarterly checks ins about career growth and bigger picture questions about my work / trajectory / etc. Then use those times to chat salary when applicable
