Are you already having promotion conversations with the decision makers? If not, start. Make clear you want to be promoted, why you think you’re ready, and ask what gaps or experiences you need to get there. Then execute on those and the pregnancy conversation is entirely irrelevant.
Do not disclose the pregnancy until after promotion decisions have been made. You aren't required to tell them until a month before you go on your leave. This shouldn't impact your promotion and you need to look out for yourself.
I didnt share the news with work until I was like 24+ weeks have them 2+ months to prep for my absence and that's plenty of time.
Thanks K1!
I am in the same boat . I was up for end of year .. did not get it as spots were limited and had not completed one year with the firm. They said they have flagged me for mid year . The problem here with me is that I will be going on leave 2-3 months even before the mid year ends . What i have done so far is told them about my pregnancy as soon as possible . My reasoning behind it was that I want to start off with a clear communication and did not want any last minute hesitations from their end . I have a written email from HR that even though i wont be there for entire mid year i will still be considered for promotion as mat leaves are protected leave . I have already had conversations with my Partner and coach about how i deserve this promotion ( and indirectly and in very amicable words gave them a indication that i am not coming back after mat leave if this promotion does not go through) . Lets see what happens now . Fingers crossed
Thank you for sharing! This makes sense and I’m crossing fingers for you for EOY!!
If you were up for promo during mid year, you should be fine for End of the year. Just talk to your CC and tell them your pregnant but worried about PA discussion. I found them to be really accommodating!
Thanks for the guidance 🙏 that’s good to hear!
