Lots of questions packed in this one! Holistically, it was listening to, and asking for feedback, coupled with how I was feeling about the work I was doing. As I progressed in my career and gained more experiences in understanding what work drives business value, I gained new perspectives that led me toward thinking more about my future (management vs remaining in a technical role). Again, listening to feedback from others who felt I would be a good fit for management, and reaching a point in my career of wanting to try something new, I jumped on an opportunity to get into management. Both are incredibly difficult in different ways in the industry I’m in (IT), but I know I can leave work satisfied when we deliver outcomes that our customers want, and it improves their day-to-day. I’m more satisfied when my direct reports are happy with the work they do, and grow in all aspects of their job. Some of these fulfillments are realized after long periods of time as a lot of time and energy is put into developing employees, but that’s the world I’m in, and it’s getting even crazier with AI.

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.

Hi all - just joining and looking for some guidance! I am currently in an IT internship position (making pretty solid money considering) and following this summer I will stay on part time during my senior year (discussing a full-time job offer after already). I’m getting my computer science degree, so I would like to do something more technical in the workplace when I graduate. How do I advocate myself for that to my manager without sounding unappreciative of the position I’m in?

Hi all, looking for advice.

I'm a technical writer with background in the hardware and healthcare industry. What would be a better option for me, pivoting into software tech writing or project management.

Which one pays better/is better (any advice appreciated, must be fully remote role)

If software tech writing, does anyone have advice on how to break into a role or learn what it takes to become one?

For PM, I got a cert (not PMP) and am trying to decide which of these two I go with.

I'm at a career juncture and have decided on a career in anti-money laundering as my new path. I'm also highly interested in additional education to further my career and am eyeing graduate school. Which is best? A law degree or a master's in international relations? Those are where my interests lie. I keep reading that JDs are valued in compliance but am wondering if a different graduate program is better for my goals. I already plan to obtain the CAMS certification. Thank you!

Hello all, I am a production manager for a sign design and manufacturing company. I have been with the company for six years now starting as lead graphic designer working my way to the production manager. since becoming the production manager two years ago I am responsible for 4 large format printers and 1 vinyl plotter. I’m wearing too many hats but I love what I do. I would love to be a remote graphic designer but I don’t know where to start. Any suggestions?

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Any product managers who wouldn’t mind me DM’ing to ask a few questions? Currently a tech consultant looking to leave consulting and considering PM

Should I accept the offer or renegotiate?
