Not trying to knock your post but I’m a little confused. If you’re a former MBB consultant in your mid-40’s with a diverse resume, don’t you have a massive amount of established contacts and mentors?
I think EY1 hits it. You should have about 20+ years of work experience by this point. You ought to be working your network & merchandising your experience & leadership results. If you have not been “chosen” by this point, then you must put in extra effort to get “noticed”. I know it’s a cliche, but getting the kind of job you are talking about is a job unto itself.
If it doesn’t happen soon, it may never happen, so go for it. You have nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
