Hi!

I recently did a job interview and I made it clear to the HR my expectation salary is 60k a year, non negotiable.
Today I got the job offer and they are offering me 54k. My current company is making me 50k with tons of benefits which is why I am asking for 60k.

Should I accept the offer or renegotiate?

Renegotiate.

OP. It’s an unfortunate reality of the anti employee policies that have been implemented nation wide and left unchecked by all but a few state governments. Look out for #1 and only #1 and you will be better off than most. Just be Midwest nice about it :)

Renegotiate. And politely decline their offer if they don’t meet your needs.

Renegotiate but also make sure you have data backing up why you should get 60k

And ask for more than 60k when you go back bc they’ll try to bring it down.

Thanks everyone! I have just sent out the renegotiation email

Based on helping 50+ clients negotiating their salary I can suggest some useful things to you-

1. Never tell an exact number for the salary you want. Always tell your salary expectations in ranges so that you do not get into this situation. Do prior research on Glassdoor on what salary you should be getting for that particular job. For example - if you are applying for a S/W developer role and the minimum, medium and maximum salary for that job in say SFO is 130k,150k, 190 k respectively. I would…

Say my salary range expectation would be 170k to 210k. You will add 15k to the medium salary and keep that as your starting point and do the same for the maximum salary.

In this way you can increase your salary exponentially

2. Coming to your situation. You 100% have to renogitiate and the way you are going to do this is say…

First of all thank so much for sending me the job offer. It is really exciting news.

Secondly, I looked at the offer and had some clarifications regarding it.

1. My salary expectation was 60k because I am already earning 55k at my current company. So, if I have to move from there I wanted an increase in salary to justify the move
2. Also, I love the work culture, the product and have heard great things about the company. If you could provide some consideration in terms of salary I would greatly appreciate it and it would help in my decision making process.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?

Hey All,
I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

If you put in your 2-week notice and they cut you off that same day for going to a competitor, would you still get paid for the remaining 2 week period? (Assuming it's the start of the period)

I'm looking to find a job like the Forward Deployed Engineer role Palantir Technologies in the UK.

I have become hooked on finding a job that involves solving the kinds of problems they presented during their interviews. Although I got to the final round my performance anxiety got the better of me (I think I wanted the job a bit too much...). I will reapply after working in a similar company.

Is it "deep tech" / "data science" or "smart enterprise" that they're doing? Any advice welcome.

Check the overtime laws for your state!!

I just recently worked 58.6 hours in a week, weekly pay, nice OT profit right? Depends on where you live.

In Iowa, there is no Overtime pay mandate, the overtime pay is at the discretion of the business. I received 58.6 hours of base pay for the week.

If the company makes less than $1 million per year or does not engage in intercontinental sales, the company is not required to pay the overtime rate of time and a half, just your base rate.
