I agree with WVHS1. If I was in your shoes, I wouldn't tell them, just like they wouldn't notify you before making a decision to cut positions or not re-hire.
You don’t tell until it’s done. Human nature cannot be underestimated! As an admin, I understand the need for change and adventure. I highly encourage my employees to find their happy place if there is something they need or want that I cannot offer. I am not like most administrators- I help people grow. Most are not like me- they often feel offended that your job search illuminates their weaknesses as a leader.

True..Why would a principal wants to keep someone if they are not happy?..Also everyone should be allowed to share their concerns with respect, to come to a common ground. Then someone might just want to stay on that job site a little longer.
I agree with the others and would choose to keep the job hunt quiet until I’m in a stronger position to make a move. If things don’t pan out with the other schools, it’s better to keep things professional rather than complicate things by talking to admin until you know for sure what your next step is.
Don't tell them anything. You have time before your next contact begins. Apply to other schools or positions that feel like a better fit. If something better comes along, take it and don't sign a contract with your current employer.
If it is the same school district, they may require you to tell as part of the application.
If you are job hunting outside the district, I would not tell them.
Yes to the other responses. Why would you tell them? You'd only need to tell them if you were trying to move mid-year. In that case, they don't have to let you out of your contract.
You never tell a job your leaving, companies will drop you in a second without any notice so why would you do that? Once you get your job you tell them your last day ans that's it.
Never never tell them until you have formally accepted another position. You are under no obligation to tell them your business; they don’t tell you theirs.

I don't know how it's done in Texas but in Nevada, CCSD at least, you will need to notify your admin that you are looking into other schools. Once you've applied someone will want to contact your admin to ask about you and to see if you are a good fit. Your admin will get asked if they were aware that you are looking to find a different job and they'll have no idea. Your potential future admin will wonder why the lack of transparency and see it as concerning and might cost you the job. I don't particularly agree with this but it happens. Just give your admin a heads up, preferably in person, and if they ask for a reason just be candid and keep it professional. Make a script if you need to and practice what to say to boost your confidence.
My contract states that you can not use a PN day to look for other work. Seems weird to threaten termination if you look for another job. I wonder if that is in the state's ed code.
