I have found those who really feel slighted by not knowing are the ones whose egos hurt the worst that they don't know. They've come up with some reason/scenario in their head that they should be privy to the information. Half the time, it doesn't have anything to do with them. The other half, it has everything to do with them: gossipy, backstabbing, will reach out to future company of employee leaving and try to get them fired before they start. I've seen it all.

Tl;dr: It doesn't bother me. I have enough to worry about in my own life keeping my information straight.

Never say where you are going! There are several reasons for this:

1) You don’t want to trigger any action from your current employer. For instance, if they feel that the new place is direct competition you might get escorted out immediately.

2) The suspense plays in your favor. You will get tons of attention as people anticipate hearing where you are going. Don’t dampen the big announcement prior to starting the new job.

3) You might change your mind.
