No - the dickiest move is to schedule a 9am meeting and then cancel it 15 mins before. Not a way to make friends
One of the first things I learned in this business is, if you expect creatives to come to a meeting, don't schedule it before 9:30 am.
And then everyone still shows up at 9:05am....
I have no problem coming in earlier than usual if a client or project depends on it, but if that's not your agency culture, and you know this - it's an asshole move to cancel/move the meeting last minute because you're not prepared. Some of us have morning routines, kids, or the morning is our "me" time because we work late every night, and we have to make arrangements to accommodate this shit. If I'm prepared for you at 9am at your request, then get your shit together.
Yes the 9am cancel is the worst asshole move ever.
@SMS1 I see you are a strategist. So I get it. You're probably a little more left-brained. The creative brain is usually far right and they can't turn it off. These guys will spend evenings thinking through ideas or coming up with new ones and you can't confine that to 9-5pm. Their brains don't work like that. They can't work like that, or all ideas would be super shitty. So if they were up until 12am thinking about why snickers satisfies the hunger, then that's why they "stroll" in around 10am.
What agency's working hours start before 8? I mean, I can get in at 9 with my own work to do, but most creatives are strolling in between 930-1030. 10am is usually the start time for meetings, and I don't mind that!
Or schedule a 9 am meeting the night before so you don't see it until you wake up (we start at 10 am at code and theory )
What agency starts at 9am?
Fuck that. I block my calendar from 9-10 every morning with a recurring meeting titled "LOL No." and never schedule meetings before 10. Typically 10:30 or 11 at the earliest, if I can help it.
Also, never starting later than 4:30pm and never over lunchtime and never on Friday late afternoons, unless the sky is falling.
I thought the point of working at an agency was not having to be somewhere at 9...
The standard NYC start time for creative is 10. From my experience that is because we work later. Not because I am a creative type that just can't conform. If you can guarantee me a 8-9 hour day, happy to be in early. And OP that is a total dick move in my eyes. Used to have a PM constantly schedule early Monday meetings on Sunday nights. The worst.
I just had that experience today. Why would you do that?
When does an agency "start"? Is 9-5 or whenever you get your shit done a crazy expectation?
Why is being at work at a normal working hour so horrible? Meeting or not. Not being a dick. JW.
Make sure they see this thread.
Isn't the "expectation" for creatives to work just as hard as we are toward the same goal? To get into the office for a 9am call if that's what's necessary? Why are they "strolling in"? I'm just trying to understand why we caudal so much. Creates such a weird environment.
In Australia, both vendors and agencies alike start at 8:30-9. How I wish it was 10am...
Creatives are the ones executing the ideas that account/PMs promise the client in the middle of the day. Ideas don't just manifest themselves out of nowhere and great ideas take hours to get to a solid place. Echoing the one comment above that creatives' brains aren't just churning when we're physically in the office. We're always thinking even when you don't see us at our desks.
9 am? Who does that?
