I pray
So very true.
Pray!
Go somewhere else that doesn’t expect the impossible and appreciates your effort.
I don't think it is impossible l, but some days it is more than I can do.
This year I have a student’s mother who doesn’t think I can do anything right. It’s tough because she will point out the things done wrong to the counselor but doesn’t speak to me about anything. The student will not ask questions, or really even speak to me despite being a friendly person herself. It’s quite a mystery to me.
I have a friend who is going through this right now. Almost every week, the mom is griping about something.
To whom are you attempting to “measure up”? Just as each student has his or her own personal best, so too do teachers 😱. I only use myself as the exemplar for my personal best, and if I cannot reach a group of students by doing my personal best, then I don’t let it change me because sometimes your personal best isn’t going to reach 100% of your student load 100% of the time. I might suggest that the student be placed with another teacher if I thought that would benefit the student, but I would DEFINITELY not get bent out of shape.
Agreed!
I try to make sure I am using self-care and reassuring myself that we've almost completed another year
I definitely need the summer reset this year, more than ever before.
It depends on who is measuring, as well.
I practice yoga and remind myself that I am not the only person struggling. Practice gratitude and finding something that did go well or that was successful before getting back up to try again with another plan or strategy! Talking to my teacher besties helps, too. A good support system is so important.
Start chipping away. Sometimes if there is one small change to make, it starts making a difference. A messy yard gets cleaned on rake at a time :)
Eat that elephant...
I take time out of my day every day to exercise and talk to myself positively in the mirror. Positive affirmations and adding them into my daily self talk is something that has really helped me.
