What corporate practice has better longevity if your goal is to stay in big law for as long as possible: M&A or Capital Markets?

About to finish my first year. I’m a specialist. Only going to hit 65% of my hours (took a 4 week vacation cause of wedding/hm).

I never say no to work and i have fantastic reviews, and the head of my practice (with whom I work a lot for) has great things to say about me.

I’ve been fully utilized starting ~June, but first few months were slow. Am i fine?!

What is a material billable hours difference from your peers at the same group? If I bill 150 less a year than another associate should I be worried?

How does everyone bill for family law matters? Do you always bill hourly or is there some flat fee, monthly or quarterly fee structure that could work, even in contested matters? I have cases that the clients end up spending $20-$40,000 on a contested divorce and this is really out of their budget. I feel that if my firm could charge a flat fee of $10-$15,000, it would still be beneficial from a client predictability and volume standpoint and would generate more referrals.

Any openings for entry level data engineering role for freshers ?

Me and My so presently live in Arkansas, living in our first home with a child 4 year, both of us recently changed our jobs and have HHI ~ 420K, current mortgage 1600/month. We are looking to move to Dallas and thinking of buying a house ~996K with a 15% down. Questions -
1. Should we go for house of that budget? We can afford, but asking based on market.
2. Should we down 15% or just 5% ? Or go for 20% ?

I've been losing a lot of deals due to lower cost / boutique vendors who are partnered with these SOC automation platforms (Vanta, Laika, etc.). Hi 👋 Any good UX books for senior designer level that helps with strategy, and good frameworks, or anything that will help me with my thought process? I have the basic books like don’t make me think, and 100 things. I’ll be joining a startup soon as chief designer, and will be back to being a full stack designer — I’ve been an IC for the past few years, so I definitely need to improve on strategies and maybe frameworks when it comes to UX. Any tips on staying motivated? I feel like my work is getting so predictable and boring and it isn't challenging my creative side. I find myself struggling to stay motivated throughout the day, does anyone else feel this way? How do you push through these feelings?
