How do you realistically protect your work life balance when your job culture subtly rewards being “always available,” even if it’s never explicitly required? My company doesn’t directly say it but I have noticed favoritism for employees who are always available and respond during off hours. This makes it feel like I’m obligated to be “available” at all hours.

What would you do if you didn’t need money? I have a fair amount coming one day and don’t actually need to work to live a good life (middle / upper-middle class). I work because of this vague notion of “ambition” and because everyone I grew up around is highly competitive and hard driving. I just feel unhappy so often and am wondering what this is all leading to. Scared I’m wasting my life being unhappy / in turmoil cause it’s what my culture wants me to do.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.
