How early is too early to know an in house gig isn’t the right fit? I’m only four months in. Weirdly, I’m enjoying the work. But the team members and dynamics aren’t for me. I moved after being at one law firm for a long time (by big law standards) so I’d assume there’s no risk of looking like I hop around too much.

What do you guys not like about the roles? Is it something you could have gauged before you took the job (in hindsight)?

For me, my culture is super suck-uppy. And there’s no one under 50 so I have no one to bond with at my level. Separately, the lack of resources is painful (for eg I had to beg to be able to get a laptop so I could work after hours / weekends, which is baffling to me after a law firm). The expectation was that I’d be working after hours but they wouldn’t issue a laptop to me for this purpose bec they want people in 5 days a week. When they finally approved it they said it would be deducted from my pay 🤯. Like sure my guy take the $1000 for some shitty Chromebook.

Start looking now. I had the same experience at my last in-house job. Weirdly enough, I got along better with the sales team than my own department. I had a toxic insecure boss and a narcissistic dinosaur GC who refused to retire.

Director interview after super day?

Had a super day last week and I thought it went well, partner sent back a nice message to my thank you note. Trying not to read too into it, but is it normal to have an interview with another director after having already interviewed with a director (and a MD)?

I did mention I have interest in a specific area with a director last week and it looks like this next director I’m interviewing primarily works in that area.

I have an urgent situation that I need advice for: what job to take? I currently have 2 job offers. Offer A (Scientist 3): 70k with full benefits including 15 PTO days and 5k tuition assistance yearly. It was sent to me last Wednesday and yesterday they left me a voicemail asking for a decision at my earliest convenience. Offer B (Manager): 76k with full benefits minus tuition assistance and only 5 PTO days first year (15 days after). Both companies said they'd groom me to take management roles.

I’m in big law and on the cusp of making the jump to in-house. It sounds like the company I just interviewed with is getting ready to make me an offer. It’s definitely going to be a pay cut coming from big law but I do get some nice equity in the company. Is the jump worth it? I’m so burnt out by big law and this seems like an awesome opportunity to help shape a newish company. Any tips on how to figure out if this is the right move for me?

Considering taking a position with a small-cap in the US trying to build their legal department.
