How likely is it to switch to a law firm in a tax group with one year of Big 4 experience in tax? Naively, I thought I would get to work on more legal adjacent projects but the bulk of the work is compliance/filling out tax returns and preparing workpapers. Wondering what my options are before another busy season

Very common to move into a specialty tax practice at a law firm after 1-2 years at big 4

This 👆

Define “very common”

It does depend quite a bit on the work you’re doing in big4, tax compliance to law firm is basically unheard of.

It's fairly common if you're at a Big 4, have a Tax LLM, and have decent law school credentials AND are in a corporate/transactional tax role involving M&A, real estate, or finance vs. a consultant position handling tax returns. If your role is more the latter, it will be harder to make the transition because you're not developing as many transferable skills.

I have worked in marketing for about 6-7 years. First few years were in social media management. My goal is to work at a big tech company.

I’ve heard mixed results about the ROI of earning an MBA. My near future goal is to move into a Marketing Director (or senior manager) role.

1) How much does Google, Amazon, Microsoft, etc. value MBAs in the hiring process?

2) Anyone currently working at the companies above with only a BBA?

Current situation: Marketing Manager, 90k, NYC.

I need some career advice. I finished my master's degree in international law (B.A.Sc international relations) but I am not sure where to go from here. I always wanted to join a big firm and I've applied to different vacancies in international firms/companies but got rejected from all of them.
Does anyone have any tips on certain job positions or companies where an LLM would prove to be useful with my background?
I'm starting to feel quite stuck in this situation and it's very demoralising.

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?
