How long were you in an entry-level role before you got or asked for a promotion? Quite honestly, I love my current workload and wouldn't have it any other way, but if the only way to make more money is to get a senior role, then I need to do that for me and my girlfriend, who just lost her job.

About two years for me. I didn't ask, they offered. But if you need the money now, I wouldn't wait around for them to notice. Ask what you need to do to get promoted to the next level. If it seems like a real possibility, stick around. If not, start applying to those next level up roles at a new company.

I would say it took me about three years for me to move up to a different role. My managers always asked me when I was ready to do so. They asked me on year two but I wasn’t ready and I didn’t want to take on the workload. But I would definitely ask if they have a senior position and that you are ready and need to take this position.

Currently at BNY Mellon with 10 YOE, specifically in Corporate Trust working CLO/CDO’s (first job out of college). I’ve moved around within the bank a few times but I’m just not happy here nor am I where I want to be in terms of comp . I want to pivot into something else but I have no clue what skills I could transfer elsewhere as what we do is so niche. I messed up my screenshare in a meeting with 2 colleagues and showed my personal email that had scheduling info for my onsite interviews with another company.
