Wow! In my class, I have 6 kids, 2 Paras, duty free lunch, and planning.
Well maybe I move back to Ohio where I grew up! 😆
4 students, no para, no planning, no duty free lunch
Yikes
PreK, 2 paras (we call them teacher assistants), I eat when the kids do (or whenever I can during rest time) no planning since the district believes rest time is my planning time (hah! They ain’t never visited to see that half the kids are awake and we have to sit near them to keep them from waking up the other half).
I live in Nevada with a k - 2 primary autism class. I have one para, duty-free lunch, 50 minute prep time. We really need to pair has even though we have very small number - 6 students. There are times where it takes two of us to keep a child from attacking another or tearing up the room but we will not get one.
Oh my gosh! That’s terrible. When I was a para before getting my masters, I was one of two paras with a teacher for 5 boys with ASD. Teacher didn’t have a planning to speak of. Sometimes she would work on stuff while we ran a Smartboard activity. 30 min break for each of us.
9 kids, 2 paras, yes & no
I taught in middle school. I had 1 para for 15 nonverbal students. I got no lunch and no planning. And why? Because we do it for the kids. And I feel that someone has got to stand up and let the powers-that-be know how hard we work and demand that we be treated with more respect. I don't know if that's possible but this year I'm not teaching special education because of it. I'm truly sad about not working with my special kids, but there is so much disrespect in the special education field.
Is self contained class better than integrated setting if only minor delay in social and cognitive? School placing into self contained class and i dont know if thats right if other kids would be all over the spectrum there? Do anyone know and can chat about it?
