Our self contained classroom students have loved it when we borrow “rubber dots” from the gym teacher. We get 4, lay them on the floor, and place each hand and foot on an individual dot. (Works best on carpet!) We then sort of “bear walk” through the classroom. Kind of a “hand hand, foot foot” maneuver. It’s a super great ab workout, and we make up stories as we go along. “Oh, we are polar bears and we are searching for fish to eat! Let’s go to the water! Oh no, the ice is melting, we have to get to a new ice float! Oh look; there are penguins! Let’s go check ‘em out!”
Oh you just gave me the idea of using “I’m going on a bear hunt” and my favorite is to make a play from Goldilocks and the 3 bears. Have the children set out doll or baby blankets for 3 beds, a table set with bowls and spoons from the play kitchen area, and if you have plants, set them up for the forest area, 3 chairs. And for the broken chair, lay a child’s seat on its side. Each time you play, let the children exchange rolls. Tell the story first. And watch the video to give them the visualization.
