Rising Star
I have an 8th grader and two 4th graders. The 8th grader has 7 teachers and the 4th graders each have 2. The 8th grader gives each teacher $25 and the 4th graders give each $75 plus something to open like a 3-wick candle, fuzzy socks, sheet face masks, etc. Teachers are underappreciated so I like spoiling them a little at the holidays and end of school year.
It’s a token of appreciation, so give what you have. It’s very thoughtful of you.
Our son is in daycare and we gave $50 cash per teacher (he has five teachers) last year. They make so little and work so hard, I feel like the deserve the world. This year we are considering upping that to $75/teacher. If every parent did that, what an amazing gift to them!
Give to the extent that your heart and your budget allows. We typically do $25 gift cards too, but I know families who give a handmade thank you card and $5 coffee giftcard, and other families who give $100 cash in a card. Whatever feels right to you!
Minneapolis. I *think* COL is pretty average, if not just slightly higher here.
I’m giving $200 each to my son’s daycare teachers this year. He only has two teachers in his room and I do cash. Gift cards get lost or not used, and cash can go further than gift cards. I have a hard time myself using plain visa gift cards, so they just sit around. These girls make very little and in years past it has been very much appreciated. (This is my 3rd child). Last year I gave more to a favorite teacher of mine who was having a hard time, but she was my baby’s first daycare teacher and helped me a lot with the transition. She was having car trouble and I went to the repair shop and covered her $1500 repair bill (on top of Christmas cash).
That’s very nice of you.
This is a thing? How nice but I cannot afford that and do not feel bad about putting my finances and security first. Do what’s reasonable for you. As a single parent, I could not afford to spend $100 on teachers rather than my child. I wish educators salaries were higher but I cannot afford to supplement them personally
It’s a thing but I’m too shy to ask what the other parents do at my daycare. I see parents bring presents to the class on holidays every year. I can’t afford $100 a teacher cuz I have 8 teachers and I’m already paying like 3000 a month to childcare. I guess it doesn’t have to be gift cards or cash, a card made by your child and some treats would be nice to show appreciation.
We gave 60 each , to two teachers and director. I don’t know where you live though , but where we live for 25 dollars it’s hard to even buy lunch.
For 8, $25 each is plenty and very generous. Some parents won’t give anything, so I am sure they appreciate anything and everything.
$200 per teacher
You are the winner
For our preschool, we give $25 to the main teachers and $15 to the extras (their gym and music teacher). Our home daycare who has them every day outside of school I give $50 and Christmas cookeis
Pro
2 kids, 6 teachers total, daycare… $25 a piece with a note from the kids (5&2). We will likely also give one to the main desk woman too who has a great connection with our son. I want to give more but I also don’t want to so I always feel guilty either way
At daycare, I partnered with my sister (who also sent her kids there) and gave a large enough gift card to treat the whole staff to lunch from a local restaurant. Basically lunch for 20 people. The loved it, we were going to spend $20-30 per teacher anyway and each kid had 2 teachers.
Inflation? I know we have our daughter's teachers $25 and the owner of the day care $50. But this was 15 years ago.
I think they mean the director if the owner is not the director.
Give what you can.
I’ve had years where I have gifted teachers $50 gift cards and had years where I have given $10 cards (like this year) and anything in between.
Should have added more context - the values I have gifted rise/fall based on how much ‘extra’ there is to share. This year - we’ve got more teachers to thank as well as tighter budgets due to rising mortgage costs.
I do $50 each and small gifts. My son is 2 yo and has 4 teachers. I also give them $30 each and card on Teachers’ Day.
So we typically give $100 to our kids teachers and $30 gift cards to other staff that help with her classroom. We only have one child in daycare and know that where we are, we may be giving more than typical.
We used to do $50 each for the holidays. We used to have 2 teachers for each of my 2 kids. Some years we’d arrange for a holiday treat for the entire day care staff (donuts or catered breakfast) because a lot of times the other teachers chip in all the classrooms (like the early morning and late care where the classes get combined sometimes)
