How much savings would you need to have to make you feel secure enough to retire comfortably, and do you think most people are underestimating how much they’ll really need? My friend says he can retire at 5 million but I would need at least 10 million.

I used to think $5M, but I think with inflation and by the time I retire, it will be closer to $10M.

That sounds right on to me as well. I'm in a HCOL area and don't plan on leaving. With costs going up across the board, I want as much cushion as I can give myself.

Most people probably are underestimating what they'll need. In most of those cases they're also just reflecting reality, they know they won't have millions stacked up. While I'd like to have millions, I'm not sure how possible that will be, so I'll have to fine a way to get by on whatever I can accumulate.

$10m

Depends on my age at the time, but I think I’d be most comfortable around 10 million. Especially with how inflation has been the last couple years.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
