Larsen & Toubro Infotech Is it good time to join Cognizant now for Coimbatore location considering too much attrition in recent times along with many policy changes and do they have enough projects or will there be any chance of layoffs if we don't find any projects for our skill(Tableau in my case)? I have another offer with LTI, Coimbatore for same salary but i prefer CTS more than LNT. Cognizant Larsen & Toubro Infotech
Hi All, I am about to have salary discussion for an opportunity with Credit Suisse. Can you please let me know what is the max salary that can be offered to 11 YOE Java developer joining in AVP position? Do they offer VP position to 11 YOE by any chance? Also how is the current situation within CS considering all the financial turmoil and layoff news? Will it be a wise decision to move to CS from Barclays at this point of time?

A few things to make you feel better from someone who has been fired.
#1) I was basically asking for it, making no attempt to improve when told specifically what I needed to do. So unless you get very specific feedback that you must improve XYZ immediately then it’s not going to happen. You can coast as a mediocre to bad associate for a very very long time.
#2) it has had no impact whatsoever on my future employability. You don’t have to go around advertising it. There are so many associates lateraling moving jobs etc that there’s no way it even comes up.
#3) when you get let go in BigLaw you usually get a few months severance, and then you go on vacation for a while until you get a new job doing the same shit. They literally pay you. I can almost recommend it.
So stop worrying.
A lot of people get fired once in this profession…

Agree. Society makes it seem like a big deal just to try to keep you obedient and subservient at work. It’s honestly not a big deal at all. Once you go through it you realize it’s nothing. (Unless you live paycheck to paycheck in which case it can suck so don’t do that and you’re fine.)
And moot anyway because you’re not actually getting fired you just have imposter syndrome or something. People don’t get fired for making mistakes.

Not to rain on the parade, but both the likelihood of getting laid off and the consequences of that, like not being able to find another job for a long time, could be a lot worse if we have a recession or even a retrenchment from the insanely tight labor market of the past couple years. That isn’t to scare anyone or cut directly against any advice here, but just bear in mind a lot of associates on here have never even seen a real recession that hit the legal market. So I would take the advice here and not worry excessively, but just keep in mind one’s experiences in the past few years may not be the same this year or beyond.

Seconded. On the point of never finding out: maybe before the associate is hired if it happens very quickly but depending on the practice area the market can be very small and senior lawyers at different firms might be friends and talk. That is to say that any foot put wrong at the new firm might be looked at more critically with ex-post information.
