This was happening to me on both arms. Always thought it was how I was sleeping and never did anything. Started getting shoulder and arm pain that I ignored for a year as well. Figured I just sleep on my shoulder weird. Finally went to the dr who said I have shoulder tendinitis since he didn’t see anything in the x-rays. I mentioned how my arms were going numb and that I was getting migraines. He said the numbness is not normal and that I needed to have a spine doctor check my neck. Come to find out I had severe herniated discs in my neck, spondylosis and cervical myelopathy with spinal cord compression. Within 2 months I had ACDF surgery scheduled for 3 disc replacements between C3-C7 with a spinal fusion between the 4 vertebrae. I’m currently on STD right now but returning to work on the 25th. My advice is talk to someone NOW about it. Not trying to scare you, but it’s harder to correct the longer you wait. The surgery was hard enough but I have nerves that have been compressed for years that are reactivating and that is the not so fun part of this. The muscle and nerve pain was a bit intense but worth it if it means I don’t lose strength in my arms and hands. You can’t repair your spinal cord so take it seriously! Let me know if you have wanna talk about it. There’s other symptoms you might be having that are signs.
Oh and I would add that was my numbness as well. Pinky finger or three outer fingers. Usually never in my pointer or thumb. It would happen regardless of whether I slept on my back with arms at my side or sleeping on my side. Didn’t matter!
Pinched nerve. Get into physical therapy asap because it will only get worse (but you can fix it now!)
Can anyone suggest a good nutrition plus exercise personal coach in Chicagoland?
How is your arm positioned when you’re sleeping? That likely has more to do with it than laying on your back.
Could be a pinched nerve
See a PT!
