Any tips for building a client base from scratch? I’m a 4th year associate at a firm of 12 attorneys. I practice in business, compliance, and real estate (primarily on partners’ files) and don’t litigate. Most of the partners’ clients are wealthy friends or friends of friends (not my circle). Associates are not referred business, even cold calls, and so far “networking” events like Chamber of Commerce luncheons have been a bust. I equate a book to autonomy and career choice and pressure is on.

Today opposing counsel contacted me to request an extension of time to file a discovery motion due to current shelter in place orders. Today was the last day to file - no prior effort to m/c. Cont.

Any advice on how to deal with a partner/boss who is shifting all responsibility to me with zero guidance, no mentoring, and an unwillingness to discuss the issues? (Small firm, only associate under this partner and have been working at the firm for 2 years). There are an increasing number of passive aggressive comments from the partner who expects to be completely hands off once the case lands on my desk. How would I go about finding a recruiter for a career switch? I have a finance background and am currently a mid level in big law. Looking for a hybrid position, but I only have experience with recruiters who recruit for other big law positions. Any ideas for how to start looking?
