How to accept that my work isn’t good enough to win awards and be famous?

Don’t dwell on it, what’s done is done. Drop the sad attitude and keep throwing sh*t at the wall until something sticks. That’s what will help you get better, it’s all about practise. And attitude. (And a bit of luck.)

likeuplifting

The work being “good enough” is like half of the contributing factor to winning awards. If that.

There’s a lot of money and politics and strategy behind what wins and what doesn’t and it doesn’t often equate to the best work winning

You need an agency to invest in the entries, and occasionally someone who shouldn’t wins something because of some friends on the jury, but usually, great work rises to the top consistently. Just focus on making great well-crafted work and you’ll create more luck.

Go to someone not in the industry and tell them your work hasn't won any awards. They won't know any awards and they
won't care. Then just live your life knowing that NO ONE will ever care.

likesmart

Yes. That’s why they’re called ‘industry awards’.

Why would someone want non-ad people to care about them? Who needs that much validation? Awards are just great within the industry, for recruiters, CCO’s, raises and job opportunities.

like

I can promise you with 100% certainty that at the end of your life, you will not even remotely care about whether or not your work was good enough to win some long forgotten advertising award.

like

100% agree, and I'd add that what matters in the short term is whether your work was good enough for the client and met THEIR objectives. They're the one paying the bills!

Winning lots of awards and being famous is one path to lots of money in advertising, but it’s not the only one, or even the best one.

like

Most people’s isn’t!

like

Work with people who are known for winning awards. You don’t have to carry all the weight right out of the gate. You can be support as you learn what it takes.

like

It take a lot more than YOU to win awards, you can play your part but you need:
1- the agency leadership wants to win
2- the clients want to win
3- everyones lawyers want to win
4- the budget and your agency’s accountants want to win
5- some production company needs to eat money if they want to win
And that’s before it gets to your account people, planners, bla bla bla, craft, etc
More often than not, you just have a lot of penny savers, hall safety monitors, and corner cutters. This is why the agencies that have organized, concentrated award show processes and initiatives win.

It's advertising. It doesn't matter.

You don’t, and you try your best to get to your own high standards. Just do this for yourself though, not for others.

I stopped long ago comparing myself to others and simply strove to get something on air that worked, and people weren’t annoyed by.

I've won numerous awards for package designs, etc. Hasn't help one bit in my job search. Focus on quality work and making cool stuff. You'll drive yourself crazy otherwise.

Remembering that no one cares about advertising outside of advertising. Just chase doing work that makes you happy. Nothing else matters.

I’ve worked in advertising for 10 years thanklessly. No awards. At all. Did some work I’m proud of but that’s enough for me. I quit and started painting again. I’m showing work in galleries and making a decent living thanks to tiktok. Advertising is a minuscule part of the world around us. Even if you win it means nothing. Doing something you’re proud of does. I’d rather die on a deathbed as a fine artists than an art director.

like

after you win the awards you’ll realize it doesn’t matter tbh. go meditate, brotha

like

I’ve won awards. It’s not that satisfying. But I’m about three years away from paying off my mortgage. Believe me that beats any award hands-down. Keep working. Keep grinding. Keep getting better.

like

Just focus on doing cool shit you’re proud of. Awards are subjective, famous work is like catching lightning in a bottle. It’s completely random.

Any tips on how to deal with this…my entire team was let go today (was 5, now just me). We functioned as the Marketing team for 4 brands and primarily focused on product launches and sustaining social media content. My plan moving forward is to only focus on the top revenue driving product launches for now and say “no” to basically everything else. Would love to hear from anyone who has been in a similar situation and can offer some advice.

What's with the probation period with Deloitte India? What's the rate of termination, if there are any, unlike the other firms (who have a probation but 99.99% of the employees are confirmed at the end of probation).

Thank you.

Things are apparently going to get better after a client will be leaving, I’ll get to work on different brands but I am feeling pretty burnt out from the agency I’m at. Will new clients help? Or should I look elsewhere. Been at the agency almost 3 years, I feel like I need to switch things up for my sanity.

I have an associate's degree in graphic design and work designing wedding stationery. I've been at my company since 2016, and am now a design consultant - speaking to customers directly and creating custom artwork and designs for them. I know I'm underpaid (50k/year in the SF Bay Area) but I thought the benefits and stability were worth it. I'm now severely burnt out (most of my team is) and not sure which way to go, or how to grow. Any tips/advice?

Thanks!
