It comes with time, first 5 years of career it was all I thought about. Second 5 it got better, now very easy for me to cut loose

Also having a kid or two helps put things into perspective

I mean this in a constructive way, so hopefully it doesn’t come off as an attack. But if you’re having this problem, you need to develop more of a life outside of work. I know it is tough, and I especially struggled before I had kids. But if you can’t take a week off of work as a chance to not think about work, disconnect, and invest some time in yourself (or family), then it’s probably a sign you need to find a new hobby or passion project.

totally understand , this is more so when i’m at my parents and having more of a “chill” week rather than going on vacation, but will try to keep busy rather than being alone in my thoughts

I get the feeling too and it’s just not worth it. Treat it like a job. I learned that the hard way this past year particularly. Reconsidering this work altogether.

It’s just not the same as it used to be

When I have a big task list to come back to after a holiday break, I like doing an hour of work a day during break to keep things moving along. Not 8 hours of work. Just one task, even if it’s filing things away. Usually the work is low stress and done on my own terms because I don’t have a bunch of inbound emails/Teams messages.

This too shall pass

Currently a staff in audit - 6 months in. Glad to be learning a lot, and have had a generally positive experience at the firm other than a few interactions, some tough busy season nights. Really been intrigued by TAS/M&A, however, and had a few convos with a senior in TAS i know at the firm. It’s closer to what I studied, but don’t know how to make the jump as it seems an internal transfer could take 6+months/senior rank and a lot of convincing. Is it better to jump firms/has anyone done this?
