What would you do in this situation? I signed a schedule A for one weeks work at Company A for $600 per day and then company B offered me 2 weeks work at $800 per day.

You’re under a contract so that dictates the terms. But even if not, if you’re booked you’re booked. If you were talking about ‘holds’ id feel different.

Yes, true! Holds are a whole different story

Would you want company A to renege on you because they found someone to do it for $400/day? If it was me I’d take the hit then raise my rates for the next gig. But I also agree with the above comment, maybe see if there’s a way you could do both!

It does suck but I do believe it’s best to act in good faith in this situation and treat them like you’d want to be treated.

Continued....Obviously the second offer is much more lucrative, but I want to be fair and loyal to my clients. Any ideas how to manage a situation like this? Thanks!

If you signed a contract with company A, what does the language in that say about terminating it? If you break contract and/or burn bridge with A, do you care?
Is there a way to do both, ie ask company B to delay 1 week so you get all three weeks of work?
Or is there a way to moonlight/work both that over lapping week by burning the midnight oil?

Thanks for replying : ). I'm not even sure if there are any legal ramifications for breaking the contract...I guess it's more about good faith. I did try to see if I could do both and work over the weekend, but understandably neither producer was keen for me to spread myself thin. I guess this will always be the gamble with freelancing...I was just interested in how other people deal with the situation. Thanks! 😀

So I got invited to do an on-site interview and as part of it, the hiring manager wants me to present some of the chemistry I'm currently working on. Anyone else feel like the markets always conspire against them? I.e. I have a “fun money” day trading account and bought two stocks about a year ago. Sold them because they weren’t doing anything and I found a more attractive investment and then they’re up literally 60% over the next three days after a year of 0 movement.

Hi everyone, wanted to come back and talk about the work environment at the Washington Redskins/Football Club -- the Washington Post story was pretty jaw dropping. One troubling angle was the use of NDAs to stifle victims. NDAs have for too long enabled bad behavior to continue, and it's time companies pledged to stop using NDAs in settlements with victims -- the coverup is worse than the bad acts. I think Warren torpedoed Bloomberg's campaign due to his use of NDAs. Thoughts?

Hi I have asked to be an advisor for a startup. Its in its very early stage pre pre-seed. Its looking like weekly strategy calls and possibly some executional work as well. Like building out a sales process and/or training sales and marketing team members (this might be 1-3hr a week of work).

They are offering 1.5-3.5%. — I am wondering if that’s enough.

In addition to this the founder mentioned that he would like me to consider becoming a co-founder.

Hey everyone - any freelance editors or editors/director/makers who live in (or work in) the Atlanta market?

Website question: is it bad to have a few spots that are over five years old? I keep them down at the bottom and the majority are much newer so they sort of serve as a ‘best of’ my older work.

Roll call. How much experience? Do you staff in a boutique? An agency? Freelance? If freelance, do you usually work in agency studios, prodcos...? Do you bring on a post producer to help on big jobs?

Does anyone include a bit on invoices like "Accounts not paid within terms are subject to a .75% monthly (9% annual) finance charge" or something like that?

Tangentially, has anyone had an invoice with 30-day terms kicked back for revisions because the client's terms are longer, or do they just ignore what you've stipulated?

Curious what comp package and terms it’d take for successful 5+ YOE freelancers to consider staff? Please also leave your YOE w response.

Hi Editors!
What did your transition from AE to editor look like?

5 months ago I joined an advertising post house as a full-time AE. Through the support of a lead editor at the company I found my way into making cuts for the company’s most prestigious client. At this point, I’ve been the sole editor of one global campaign and a co-editor of another, in addition to cutting many social media videos. It’s only 5 months but I can’t help feel that my title doesn’t reflect the work I actually do.

I am soooo slow right now… nyc. How’s everyone else doing. I’m getting a little nervous about this economy and seeing a lot of layoffs in other bowls 😣

Pitch videos. It has now become standard to be handed a vo script with no thought as to what’s on screen. When did the editor's job become thinking up the images as well?
