How would you navigate this situation: my senior associate on a matter has been running about ten days late on a big deliverable for a client. I’ve been offering to draft sections for weeks, but he said he had it. He finally reached out today, asking me to draft sections from scratch (he refused to send me what he has, so I have zero context on where my parts would fit in), and he needs it done today. I’ll have to rearrange my day (and I’m fasting, so I’m kind of limited). More in comments.

Is he otherwise a dick? If so, I don’t think you can flat out refuse, but maybe a “happy to help. Looping x, y, z in for visibility. Thanks in advance for sending along any drafts/notes you have so I can get this handled as efficiently as possible” email would be in order. If he’s a nice guy and just overwhelmed right now, I’d probably just help.

That would for sure mean war lol

If you need more information from him to do the assignment, ask in the email so you have the “no” documented!

He didn’t cc anyone else in the email asking me to do this, so I have a feeling he won’t give me credit for my work, but will try to blame me for further delay. But I also don’t want to be a wrench in this.

Thank you, both approaches feel very reasonable here. I think I’ll do a hybrid—send in my draft looping everyone else in and asking if they have additional guidance.

This but our associates do it to partners

My juniors throwing trash, that would get an unpaid intern fired, at me 3 days after the client requested it, knowingly I'll fix it to keep my job, and the partners yelling at me to be more hands off with juniors and respect their autonomy. ☺️

Sorry, but I'm not ok rn... lol

I have 3 questions now :

2. What is the general hike I can expect ? And when it is reflected ?
3. When will be the variable pay will be paid out ?

Can anyone here help me with this performance cycle part ? I am really confused.
