Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

Is it a one way street or do they do their fair share of travel to come see you?
My folks come to town once a year; SOs once every 2 years; twice total for our siblings
I see my family outside of holiday periods and go where I want for vacation. Let them be offended. If they care so much, they can come to you.
What have your personal travel costs got to do with consulting/business travel ?
Message keeps getting cut off. No idea why. If this travel aligns with your values and affordability, keep going. If no, find another way to honor your family.

Move closer..... just kidding. Do you have kids? Is your spouse on board with going less or hosting. Because is your SO thinks that's a good use of 12k a year, then there is no end in sight. If your spouse is on board, then you need to decide what is reasonable. Direct sibling related wedding ( nephew, nice, sister, brother) you going. Cousins ??? Christmas? Thanksgiving? Decide how you want to spend them. Alone? New traditions, alternate whose family, offer to host?
The key is deciding with your SO and do a United front. And decide if it's really about the money or if it's also you feel like you never got a day off. Then its easier to articulate. I travel for a living, it's not how I want to spend my time off. We're saving for a house, college, whatever.
At some point, you have to put your family first.
You’re spending over 8k a year on flights? Is this international? My wife and I live in a different part of the country of both our families. I probably spend 2k a year on flights
Canada based. International (US) for SO
In general Canada travel costs quite higher than average US
