Yes, ditched it. Most annoying thing ever. Hire a cleaning service.
I've tried a few of them. Works fine if you keep the floor tidy and furniture reasonably organized so that thing doesn't get stuck while you're away. The original roomba wasted too much time bumping around. I did not try the new model. I also tried Mint (bought by iRobot now) - their tech is now on the new Roomba for better Navigation. I liked Neato for its laser based Navigation and vac power but it tends to tangle more than the Roomba
I got the bobi off of Groupon and it was great but spent most of the day tangled up in shag carpets. Once a week cleaning service is the best 150$ you will spend, trust me.
Neato survives living with a husky, and tends to be awesome at finding its way back to dock and restart. Highly recommended.
Try the new Roomba. If it's Nav works as advertised then it might do a good job of maintaining the apartment for several weeks.
Depends greatly on your apt setup. Have the latest 900 series. We don't have any awkward corners. Mostly one large room we have it vacuum. We prevent it from going to bedrooms. Works great for the higher traffic areas of hallway, kitchen, dining room and living room
Agree with others, not worth it if you have pets. If you don't have pets and not very messy I'd say go for it. You can schedule a timer for it to run. I have the new Roomba
My main problem is the apartment has too many obstructions and the pre- roomba prep required is what annoys me. Eg the roomba get stuck on my bar stools base support etc
With the Neato, I lay down its magnetic boundary strips around furniture that I know it cannot navigate. It still struggles sometimes with carpet tassels. The Roomba never had a problem with tassels but it was harder to setup boundaries because the infrared walls are more expensive. I think it depends a lot on apartment and furniture layout. If you can get it working it's very good at cleaning up and giving your carpets and floors that fresh vac look.
I have a roomba. I agree with the cons - but - the alternative is me cleaning/vacuuming. I still love it! At least the basic stuff like dust/hair/crumbs and everyday "dirt" is taken care of, even if you won't completely eliminate actual cleaning, I think that has gone done significantly for me. I don't have pets or kids and I think that helps more too
The housekeeper alternative is an entirely different story. That is giving you cleaning of furniture, kitchen and bathrooms, in addition to the vacuum! Higher level of service = higher expense. However, if you're gonna spend $900+ on a robot then the housekeeper option starts to look good (Handy will send a cleaner for ~$50-60 a visit for a small apartment).
Really? That's disappointing...which one did you have and what didn't you like about it?
@PWC 2, great insight, thanks! Trying to decide between the 1.) 880 model for $529 - no wifi/app but all the other multi-room and advanced features, or 2.) 960 model for $699 - wifi/app enabled (can be run from the app while away), advanced navigation, and second down from the top of the line. 3.) 980 model for $899 is the top of the line one, but that seems ridiculously expensive for a vacuum...idk how much more advanced it can or should get than #2! Anyone have any thoughts on those?
