Hey folks, I’m about a year into my new SE career and looking to continue to invest in professional skills. I’ve obviously been thrown into the fire learning the sales side of things, but what areas (technical skills, certs, books, etc.) you all would recommend I look to invest in? I’ve been looking at some beginner coding boot camps and scrum product owner certs, but interested in what you all have done to further advance your career

Hey friends, I've been in sales for over ten years in retail/ hospitality.

I'm focusing my efforts to make a switch into tech sales and id like to work for AWS.

I completed a tech sales bootcamp and have purchased a couple books on sales methodology, more so enhancing sales + active listening skills.

If anybody would be willing to chat! I'd love more insight on roles Within AWS tech sales.

Care for a quick dm chat?

Any particular segment of sales good for ex-finance? Currently 3 years in at fortune 100 bank on business development side (on commercial loan originations team but no commission/targets at the associate level, basically do credit analysis and build pitch books for the producers) This role has been great as I have gotten both analytical experience and tasted sales experience (I say taste bc I’m not the producer) but would potentially like to transition to a sales role that is less analytical

What are some of y’all’s fave sales books or podcasts?

I believe improving one’s sales conversion rate is something everyone want to improve but no one wants to admit they would like to work it. Funny how lawyers will spend thousands on seminars to improve trial skills. But this topic is not discussed in our profession. I have read books in sales. But am unable to find any for lawyers. I want convert every lead I can. Does anyone have tips, books, cle’s or studied this topic?

Hi boys & girls!

Joined a big firm (Big4) not long a go and starting to feel like I got a good grip on my current work.

I've always been very technical, so I think that the only thing I am missing now is making sales. (I really wanna make partner)

Can any seasoned lawyer share tips and materials (i.e. books) which can help?

Would it be a good idea to join a Social Club where potential clients spend time? (gym/tennis/paddel/events)

Any advice welcome!

How are layoffs decided at B4 and Midtier? Is it from on high (i.e. your utilization and outlook is shit). Is it the partner(s) you work under being like oh yeah fuck this guy, let him go and let's keep Debby who hasn't billed dick in a dick year. Just curious. Recently promoted, but drunkenly pessimistic.

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?

Anyone from EY, especially India, who tried to downgrade from EB2 to EB3 recently due to the way PDs are moving and was successful??, I know the immigration team at EY sucks but wondering if anyone hit the gold pot.

I’ve gotten emails lately talking about how we are hiring at Accenture and asking us to tap into our networks, so figured I’d post on here. Needs being called out can be seen in the picture. I can’t promise I’ll respond to everything but if anyone wants a referral feel free to reach out. Also, I work in healthcare and I’ve gotten separate emails from leadership about how we need to hire more people there too.

Ethical question: would you try to negotiate a raise in current job if you know you’re actively looking elsewhere? Context: had an incredibly challenging year with a huge project that completed successfully. Extremely complex tasks and long hours. Got an award for “disruption” but in summary, the role evolved and now I want to ask for market adjustment /as well as merit raise. I also hate what I do at the moment and can’t wait to leave, but might take months. Should I still ask for a raise?
