I am experiencing a bit of a difficult situation at work and not sure what to do about it or if there is anything I can do.
My work is a wonderful place to work for most... but one of our colleagues has an undiagnosed illness. She really does have a long term illness, but she is constantly back and forth with doctors etc. She 100% gets spoken down to by one of my bosses at work quite badly. I feel there is nothing I can do other that comfort her :(

Just letting her know that you're there for her means a lot. I was dealing with some chronic health stuff and knowing that my colleagues were sympathetic meant a lot. You can't really stop the boss from talking down to her, nor should you advocate on her behalf because that might be seen as overstepping. But you can let her know that you have her back and you're there if she needs any help with anything.

Yeah, tbh that is really all I have been doing but it’s just so hard watching it happen

Gosh this is so hard. And you're an angel for caring and being supportive. I think being supportive and helping her pick up work where you can speaks volumes. If you know why the boss is speaking down to her, like quality of work and such, you can try to help boost those things to eliminate the boss rants.

Absolutely! I’ve done exactly that saying anything that I am able to do I’m absolutely happy to help out with. That’s actually a really great idea, thank you so much

You'd be surprised at how much of a difference "merely" comforting her can make. Knowing there's someone in your corner empathizing with you provides a huge boost, even if it might not seem like it. Good for you for making the time and effort to show her she's not alone. I guarantee it's appreciated more than you can imagine. Also, shame on that boss. If they ever really cross the line, I hope someone will report it to HR. That kind of bullying behavior has no place at work. Or anywhere, for that matter.

Well I have had other employees mention that they have also noticed it so fingers crossed something is done about it. But absolutely, just trying to be there for her in any way she needs for now! I just feel so useless to actually helping her

That is such a difficult spot to be in. I think comforting makes a world of a difference. Hopefully things get better for her

Yeah that’s what I’m telling myself for now! Thank you

Hello All,

Have a few questions regarding IBM Joining, HR response is strangely lacking and so does in the slack(prejoin channels). Hoping can be cleared here..
a) I've been told virtual onboarding is no longer a thing.
How many days does in-person onboarding activities occur?
b) HR Informed,"After onboarding is complete, can get perm WFH based on project or extension of WFH as IBM is flexible"
Is this true? Can managers extend/grant remote for a month then let us transit to remote model?
