I am in a new job and finding hard to assimilate. What are some of the tricks of the game you have played to get in the mold quickly?

Start building genuine relationships with the various people you work with - especially people who are internal “clients”. Have coffee, meet for lunch. Don’t talk shop. Get to know and like them as people. That real, person-to-person connection is the secret sauce to make the work go well and then everything should fall into place. Good luck! I’m pulling for you!

Get to know them. What’s their career path? How long have they worked there? Do they have things they’ve learned about how to be successful there or missteps they’ve made or seen others make that they suggest you avoid? What do they like to do outside of work? Upcoming vacation plans? ….Ask ChatGPT for some good getting-to-know-you questions. Don’t be invasive or too personal. Really listen to what they say. Ask follow-up questions. It’s not about you, it’s about getting to know them so share some but don’t make the conversation about you. Find commonalities or go deeper to understand someone very different from you. Check in again a few weeks or a month later. Keep building the relationship.

Honestly, I stay under the radar as much as possible 😅

I have to get myself out of my comfort zone for this. You should give yourself some time, but get to know people when you can. Hobbies or their goals have been good starting places for me.

If it's politically motivated maybe consider moving to another state with your specific views and you won't be targeted.

Hello All,
I am finishing up my second year of practice as a lawyer. I transitioned to plaintiffs pi work from a boutique commercial litigation firm. I like the work and not having to bill. The issue I am having is managing volume. I have about 150 active files some pre-lit and the rest are in litigation. Cases range in value from very small to low six figures. I also take the driver seat for the grunt work on the firms bigger cases which are at or near 7 figure value. I constantly feel (cont.)

If you miss the ‘Golden Age’ of television, I highly recommend tuning into Sean, Laura, and Tucker on FOX. An argument can be made that they are the Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad of their format. Unlike those works of fiction however, these shows and their respective hosts provide insight into our real world in a way no screenwriter ever could.
